Specialising in long-form articles, some of its most notable pieces include ‘Themes and References in Joanna Newsom’s “Sapokanikan”’, which was highlighted by The Wall Street Journal, ‘Clotted Hinderparts and Privy Drains: Game of Thrones and a History of Death on the Toilet’, and ‘Crimea: A Literary Perspective’. It incorporates regular series such as ‘Behind the Song’ and ‘Culturedarm’s Songs of the Month’, and has featured interviews with artists and artisans including the American musician Jolie Holland upon the release of her acclaimed album Wine Dark Sea.
The Culturedarm logo is an abstract circular mosaic in brown and grey, evocative of wooden desks and marble tops, houses and horizons, cityscapes both industrial and futuristic, mountains and glaciers, leaden skies and the depths beneath. Or else it evokes nothing at all, the mere rhythm and play of shapes both discrete and indiscrete.
